The Virtual Console was an online store for the Nintendo 3DS, Wii, and Wii U. The service allowed players to download games from older consoles. Purchases from the Wii Virtual Console lasted until it closed on January 30, 2019 and the service ended completely on March 27, 2020. A feature on Nintendo Switch Online would succeed it called Nintendo Classics, which allows players to play various classic games on their Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
